24h Emergency: 084 124

Feb 10, 2021

Bestmed lives its values. We regard our stakeholders as family. As such, we thought it important to introduce you to some of the lives within the Bestmed family.

Meet Ria Fourie.

Ria is the Provider Services and Admin Team Leader and has been with Bestmed for the past 12 years. She was initially encouraged to join the family because she lives close to the Bestmed offices. “I also knew about Bestmed’s reputation of being a caring preferred employer and I decided to join,” she said.

  1. What is the best thing about your job?

Working with a management team that is future focused and always open to suggestions. I often have the opportunity to research new ideas and become involved in the implementation thereof.

  1. Give us a short bio about your career history.

I worked as Qualified Dental Assistant at a dental practice for four years. I then joined Medscheme as a Dental Advisor Consultant. I then moved on to Consultant Special Projects. After four years at Medscheme, I moved on to work for MX Health.

After nine years and several roles, I joined Bestmed as a Claims Assessor. I am now Team Leader: Provider Service and Administration, where I manage the family practitioner and dental networks, as well as the Provider Enquiry Call Centre.

  1. Do you have any special or hidden skills?

I love cooking and making all kinds of new and exciting dishes for my family. If you ask the kids what they miss most about moving out, they will always say, “Mom’s food”.

  1. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I do not have a television (TV) in my house. It broke about ten years ago and I just never replaced it. I love spending time with my family, talking to my kids and knowing what goes on in their lives. Not watching TV creates quality time with them.

  1. What are your hobbies?

Apart from experimenting in the kitchen, I love to read when I have the time.

  1. What is something — a food or activity — that you tried reluctantly, and it turns out you like it?

Sushi. I didn’t eat it until I was 40 and now, I love it.

  1. What part of your daily routine do you look forward to most every day?

Coming home and spending time with my family. I call it my Happy Place.

  1. What is your favourite motto?

“Work hard in silence, let your success be your noise.”

– Frank Ocean.
