Enhanced palliative care benefits

Palliative care is multidisciplinary medical care that supports those with life-threatening diseases, most commonly AIDS and cancers. This specialised care aims to optimise a patient’s quality of life, as well as support their family members, at every stage of illness. Care begins when a life-threatening disease is diagnosed and continues regardless of whether treatment, such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy or any other treatment directed at the disease, is received or not.

Know the symptoms of a heart attack and save a life

A heart attack is triggered by a blockage of blood supply to the heart muscle. The blockage is usually caused by a clot in the coronary blood vessels. The result will depend on how much of the muscle is affected and how quickly one can get assistance.

Demystifying COVID-19 Vaccines

It has taken South Africa more than three months to reach the 1 million mark but the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines is now picking up pace. In early June, it was reported that out of the 40 million people targeted for the country to reach herd immunity, 1.2% had been fully vaccinated by 1 June. At the time, KwaZulu-Natal was leading the charge, with at least 2.3% of the province’s population having received at least one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine. On the other end of the scale, Mpumalanga had only managed to administer doses to 0.8% of its population.
