The Bestmed Maternity Care Programme is now managed by the Service Providers, Contracting and Research Department.

Completion of the Health Risk Assessment (HRA) is no longer a requirement to be registered on the maternity programme and members can register on this programme as soon as they become aware of their pregnancy.

To apply for the benefit members must please send the following information to maternity@bestmed.co.za .

• Membership number
• Dependent name and contact details
• Expected date of delivery
• Cell phone number to contact member and arrange for gift delivery

Bestmed members have the option to have the delivery in a hospital setting, with an obstetrician or general practitioner.  Bestmed is one of the few schemes that also pays for midwife-assisted births in full on all options, should the member make use of a network midwife. Should a member choose a midwife-assisted birth, the following options are available:

• Birth at the Midwife birthing house
• Birth at the members own home
• Birth at a Hospital active birthing unit

Bestmed currently has 37 contracted Midwives that can provide care for our members. You can request a complete list of the contracted midwives or search for midwife in your members’ region from your Broker Consultant, or alternatively access the Bestmed website to download.
