We’re almost there! Despite the fact that we’re just over a week away from being able to leave our homes, lockdown may be affecting you both mentally and emotionally. Because we care about your overall wellbeing, here are a few tips to stay positive (and sane) during the last stretch.

  1. Use technology

We are fortunate to live in an age where technology is advanced enough for us to stay in touch with our family and friends – even those living abroad. You may not be able to give them a hug, or even an elbow bump at this time, but you can support each other positively via messaging, phone calls and video calls.

  1. Stick to your routine

Try your best to stick to your daily routine as much as possible. Get up, work, eat and sleep at the same time every day as you would were you not in lockdown. Time may not seem to drag as much if you and it won’t be an effort to adjust when you can go back to your workplace.

  1. Exercise

If exercise is already part of your daily routine, keep it up. If not, now is the time to get those muscles moving. According to Mayo Clinic, exercise helps control weight, boosts energy, helps combat health conditions and diseases, improves your mood and helps you to sleep better. Try to do at least 20 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise every day and strength training for all major muscle groups at least twice a week.

  1. Set goals

Now that you may have more time on your hands outside of work hours, think about what you’ve always wanted to achieve and do it. Set reachable goals for every day to, for example, read a book you’ve been trying to finish for the last year, learn a new language or instrument, or enjoy trying new recipes.

  1. Take account

Write down five things every day that you are grateful for and five things that you look forward to once lockdown has ended. Every time you have a negative thought, replace it with one of the items on your list to stay positive. Be mindful that even though these are tough times, not everything is bad and most people are good.

  1. Offer support

You can beat feeling helpless and anxious by offering support to the elderly, unwell, or lonely. A phone call or a food parcel can go a long way into making someone’s day, while helping you to feel more in control of the situation.

  1. Limit media intake

An information overload may leave you overwhelmed, confused and even panicked. You also need to be aware that not all information you receive is accurate. Check reputable media only a few times a day and remember that no news is good news. If something important is announced, you’ll definitely hear or read about it in some way.

We want to remind you that we are all in this together. By staying at home during this world crisis, you are doing your part to save lives.
