Whether you’re at home, on the road, or at a sporting event, it’s important to keep a fully stocked first aid kit handy for minor injuries, or unexpected emergencies until you can receive professional help.

Every first aid kit should include the following, according to ER24 paramedics:

• Latex gloves (use non-Latex gloves if you are allergic to Latex)
• Scissors
• Tweezers
• Safety pins
• Antiseptic wound cleaner
• Antiseptic cream
• Burn dressing
• Gauze swabs
• First aid dressings
• 2 or 3 rolls of bandages
• Triangular bandage
• Plasters
• Eye patch
• CPR mouthpiece
• Sunscreen
• Personal medication (make sure to label it as such)
• Personal information

You can buy basic first aid kits, such as the above, at your local pharmacy and add more of your items as needed.

It’s a good idea to paste medical emergency contact details on the inside of your first aid kit where they’re immediately visible should you be faced with an emergency where you are unsure of what to do. Bestmed members should contact ER24 on 084 124.
