Difficult times have befallen so many people because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we are concerned about people who have lost their work, income, and livelihoods we sympathise just as much with those who have contracted the virus and fallen dangerously ill. As a medical scheme Bestmed has tried its best to proactively provide our members with everything that they need to be well equipped to handle this pandemic.

We communicate as frequently as necessary to our members and providers to ensure that they are informed on everything that they need to know and are fully aware of the COVID related benefits for Bestmed beneficiaries. Additional benefits that were made available included:

  • allowing members to claim for telephonic and video consultations
  • allowing members to claim refunds for personal protective equipment such as hand sanitisers and masks from their available over-the-counter (OTC) benefits
  • covering COVID related consultations, testing and treatment as a prescribed minimum benefit
  • offering members whose income has been impacted by the pandemic with alternative payment solutions with the intention of helping them maintain their medical cover during this period where public health has become the highest concern

Please see our COVID-19 page for more details regarding Bestmed’s COVID-19 related benefits. Most importantly we have continued to operate as an essential service provider throughout the duration of this devastating pandemic providing our members with the best possible healthcare cover.

Below is a summarised report of the statics and the impact of COVID-19 on Bestmed members as at 12 September 2020:

Bestmed is still committed to delivering a Personally Yours approach to providing high quality healthcare cover and support to all our members who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic until we have completely flattened the curve.
