It’s summertime and what better way to stay refreshed than with some fresh watermelon? Spruce up your drink mixology skills by incorporating this watermelon drink into your summer drink favourites. Refreshing watermelon juice is a great way to reduce your refined sugar intake. It takes less than a quarter of a watermelon to produce a single serving of this drink, so it’s easy to make this drink on demand this summer.

The health benefits of watermelon juice
This drink is packed with vitamin C and is low in refined sugar, making it a great collagen-boosting drink, so your joints, hair, nails and skin will definitely love it.

Since this drink is made with fresh watermelon and lemon juice, there are no preservatives, and by adding your own honey, you are in full control of the added sugar content. If you’re trying to avoid added sugar, a naturally-derived sweetener, like xylitol or stevia, is a great option.

This drink is also low-calorie, even with two teaspoons of honey, so you can enjoy it without worrying about shooting past your daily calorie requirements.

Watermelon is also a good source of copper, which is a mineral that helps to create norepinephrine (noradrenaline), a hormone that helps you focus. Copper also supports melanin production, which is really important to help reduce the early formation of grey hairs.

Watermelon also naturally contains magnesium and potassium, which supports electrolyte balance, so it’s easy to stay hydrated this summer. Additionally, this amazing fruit is a good source of l-citrulline, an amino acid that converts into l-arginine, which helps produce nitric oxide to open up the blood vessels. It helps to ensure that your blood pressure stays controlled, that nutrients make it to your muscles on time and that toxins are pulled out of your system effectively.

Also don’t underestimate the benefits that a few mint leaves and a splash of lemon juice can have on your overall health. These minor additions to your drink not only help increase the antioxidant and vitamin C content of this drink, but they also aid in digestion. Mint has also been shown to help alleviate bloating and gas.

So, grab your glass of a fresh sparkling watermelon juice and enjoy the summer weather.
